How to refresh your wardrobe on the go

Packing smart when you’re on the go isn’t just about choosing the right outfits. It’s also about knowing the right way to refresh what you have, so you can travel light and wear your clothes as long as you need to, until you have time for a proper launder. Read on for our top tips on how to refresh your wardrobe when you’re travelling or out and about.

1) Bring laundry bags

Our recycled and reusable mesh laundry bags don’t just protect your clothes inside the drum. They’re also super helpful when travelling, to separate your clean items from your dirties. Keep one for shoes (you don’t want the soles rubbing against your clean clothes); one for your swimsuits; one for clothes that need to be washed; and one for clothes you’ve worn, but will rewear and wash later. Using laundry bags will both keep everything cleaner, and help you stay organised and keep track of what outfits you have left.

2) Pack compatible clothes

If possible, pack easy-to-clean clothes made of sweat-wicking, quick-drying fabrics (think microfibres or blends - materials you’d exercise in), so you have at least a few ‘emergency’ travel outs. They’re lighter and easier to care for than thicker or natural fibres (like denim or wool) when travelling, and will stay fresher for longer without washing.

3) Air your clothes

If you’re rewearing clothes, be sure to hang them up somewhere between wears to let them air out. This is super important when the weather’s hot, or when being active. If possible, hang items outside for that hard-to-beat natural freshness. The sun’s UV light naturally sterilises natural fibres like cotton and wool by killing lingering bacteria.

4) Use finishing spray

By neutralising lingering odours, Kair’s Signature Finishing Sprays effectively revitalise and refresh dry fabrics between washes - like a dry shampoo, but for your clothes. They also release creases and wrinkles, so your clothes won’t have to worry about emerging from your suitcase looking a little bedraggled. Simply pop them in your handbag or travel luggage when you’re on the go, or when you’re wearing an outfit for an entire day. Whether your workout kit needs a little R&R after a long run in the sun, or your wedding outfit needs a quick refresh to see you from the reception through to the late night dancing, you can always rely on finishing spray to refresh your on-the-go wardrobe.

5) Hand wash items

If all else fails, you can always hand wash your items when on the go. It’s easier than you think, especially with smaller items, like socks and lingerie. Simply decant a little liquid detergent into a travel bottle (we particularly love these reusable plastic-free ones by Beauty Kitchen), then hand wash your items in a sink. Thoroughly dissolve the detergent before immersing the item and leaving to soak for half an hour (don’t rub or wring), then rinse and gently squeeze out excess water. Hang to dry on a peg-free washing line (such as this one from Decathlon). Finish with a spritz of scent-boosting finishing spray.
