What to wear to weddings this summer

After so many wedding delays or adjustments due to the pandemic, we can finally start celebrating our friends and family in style this summer. Plus, with today’s brides swapping traditional white gowns for elegant jumpsuits, or grooms skipping black tuxes for pastel suits, guests too now have a lot of freedom with their own wardrobes. Read on for our favourite 2022 wedding guest outfit ideas, whether you’re looking for an investment piece to wear again and again, or one special look to wear to all of the events in your calendar. If you think you might only wear a specific look once or twice though, renting is the ideal option for special events: HURR and By Rotation, for example, both have super stylish, ever-expanding collections full of dreamy wedding guest attire.

Florals

Florals at a wedding will always be fresh and summery. We love Reformation’s Veria Silk Dress, a sleeveless maxi dress featuring an open back and ruched bodice for a more sophisticated look. If there’s a more modest dress code which requires covering your shoulders, as with church ceremonies, consider pairing a neutral base with a floral cardigan or wrap. For a respectful yet eye-catching look, check out Cinta The Label’s capsule collection of handmade embroidered floral-print collars, made from surplus fabric.

Jumpsuits

Versatile, comfortable and stylish, Jumpsuits are the power players of any wardrobe, and the perfect stand-out wedding outfit. We love KITRI’s Lydia Palm Springs Stripe Jumpsuit, made from linen and sustainable TencelTM, with a flattering neckline, gorgeous 3/4 puff sleeves, and a wide, full-length straight leg. Plus, it ties at the back to fashion a dramatic bow. For something extra special, consider the vegan silk Jackson Jumpsuit from Lötfte, with a unique paint-stroke canvas design in beautiful shades of white through to black.

Co-ords

If you want to wear trousers, but not a jumpsuit, why not try a two-piece set? For an interesting twist on a dress, try a coordinating top and skirt, such as Reformation’s midi-length Beatrice Silk Two Piece, featuring elegant lace detailing on the neckline and skirt hem and cute, summery florals. For a classic yet cool look, pair chic, tailored trousers with a matching blazer. We particularly love Dai’s high-rise tailored Liberty Trouser in gorgeous Prussian Blue which you can pair with their Trail Blazer in the same colour. Both of these Dai pieces are stylish yet super comfy, made with eco-certified feels-like-yoga performance fabrics to see you from the ceremony through to the late night dancing.

Textures

In place of a sparkly or metallic ensemble, consider adding texture to your wedding day outfit. Ruffles or pleats are always striking yet flattering. We adore this sweeping V-Neck Pleated Slip Dress from Vince, rendered in incandescent satin, featuring a fitted bodice and generous skirt which blooms open for easy movement - perfect for the wedding dance floor. Consider also this statement-making and versatile Silk Pleat Maxi Dress from ME+EM, dipped in bold parakeet-green, and outlined with eye-catching frill trims. l.

Colours

Make a statement with a single bold colour, such as OMNES’ Ultra Violet Riviera midi dress, made from 100% recycled polyester and featuring a flattering body-skimming cut, cowl neck and show-stopping tie-back detail. Pair with a strappy heel on the wedding day itself, then with trainers and a chunky knit for an understated daytime look.

Prints

For a laid-back yet playful look, try a fun print, like the Atlantis Organic Cotton Printed maxi dress from Thought, made from carbon-neutral modal blended with chemical-free cotton. We love its enchanting, whimsical design, inspired by sea gods and ancient mythology - a joy to look at and to wear, and the perfect example of beach formal attire.

Whether you’re a bridesmaid or a plus one, whether it’s a lavish event or intimate ceremony, these styles are sure to make you guest of honour this season and beyond.
